Does God have powers beyond believing?
Yes. God is all-powerful. That means that God can do anything that He wants to do! Sometimes people challenge this by asking if God can make a weight so heavy that even He cannot lift it up. Well, that sort of question doesn’t make sense, because God can do anything including making whatever He wants and moving around whatever He makes. However, God doesn’t do things that make no sense, like make square circles or weights so heavy He cannot lift them. Our God is not only all-powerful, but He is all-good, all-knowing, and all-intelligent. God doesn’t do evil things or things that are unintelligent—things that make no sense to a thinking mind created in His image. Yet, on the other hand we do not understand God fully, nor do we understand everything He does, not by a long shot. So yes, God has powers that we have never thought of and perhaps never will understand. God is so far beyond us that our minds are like the minds of bugs (even less than this) compared to His mind.
Yet, God gives us power too—powers that are beyond our normal abilities. For anyone who attended this year’s Bible camp at Curé, you would have learned that Jesus gives us the power to be thankful, the power to help others, the power to be brave, the power to live forever, and the power to tell others about God. The scientific powers of Prof. Kewldewd and Dr. Frank Incense were great at the Bible camp—powers to create tiny clouds and snow, shatter tomatoes into a hundred pieces, make tofu edible, walk on water (really slime), launch rockets into the sky, erupt volcanos, etc. (you really had to be there to believe it). But, God’s powers are far, far greater. God can do anything, even bringing life from death and good out of evil. Perhaps, the lesson to be learned is that we should trust more in God’s power and ask for His help more often!
