This week, I’d like to ask you all a question. My question is: what spiritual practices work well for your family?
I know pretty well ways adults can pray, but I’d like to hear especially what works for teaching children how to pray. I am convinced that this is one of the most important things we can do in life. If a person prays well and regularly, they will have a strong relationship with God, and that changes everything!
Also, what works for celebrating seasons like Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter? What ways have you come up with to emphasize the religious meaning of these events and seasons, especially for your children?
What I’d like to do if I get a good response is to use this information in my own ministry and possibly to republish it in this column for your benefit. I need your help in this, so please respond by sending me an email (frgreg@kc.rr.com) or writing something down and putting it in the Ask-a-priest box (in the vestibule right next to the restrooms) or bringing it to the office. I appreciate your help!
Today, Pentecost, is also Evangelization Sunday. It is imperative that we as Catholics, as disciples of Jesus Christ, spread the Gospel. As you know well, many have left the Church, and there are many more in our neighborhoods who have little or no faith. Jesus’ last command was to go “make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28:19). The Holy Spirit empowered the Apostles to do this. We have received the same Spirit by Baptism and Confirmation. A great place to start evangelizing is in our own homes by passing on the faith to the youth. I look forward to hearing your answers to this critical question of how to do this!
